The Infrastructure Outlook 2050 is a joint study by Gasunie and TenneT on an integrated energy infrastructure. This outlook describes the consequences of possible transition pathways for the existing gas and electricity infrastructures, for various scenarios.
Although electricity produced from sun and wind is seen as the main source of energy by 2050, a major part of it has to be converted to molecules. As a consequence, the energy system of the future is expected to not only require a strong electricity infrastructure, but also a strong gas infrastructure.
