"What I do has a real impact on the lives of patients" | InnoCore

Doing work that can positively change the lives of patients is incredibly motivating. "I can make a significant contribution here at InnoCore to the development of medicines. And I really have an impact on the lives of patients, and I'm proud of that," says Emma Niemeijer, who has been working in quality control at InnoCore Pharmaceuticals for a year and a half. She feels completely at home at InnoCore. The company, located on Campus Groningen, specializes in the development of long-acting medication for the treatment of a wide range of diseases. "I think this applies to many people who work in the life sciences, including me," adds Robert Hof, CEO at InnoCore. "Even though the products we develop have to go through a long testing process, they ultimately end up in a medicine that will improve the lives of patients. Being able to contribute to that is just awesome."

No coincidence

Emma ending up at InnoCore after her Chemistry studies at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen is not a coincidence. "I first came across InnoCore during a 'Meet & Greet,' a job fair organized by Hanze and the LIFE Cooperative. After that conversation, I immediately felt a connection. I tried to do an internship here, but the spot was already filled at that time. After I graduated, I kept a close eye on InnoCore's job openings. I was able to get in through a job post on LinkedIn."

Robert is pleased to have young professionals like Emma in his team of about 40 employees. "Science never stands still. Young people bring knowledge of the latest techniques but also skills in social media and IT. The combination with more experienced people is crucial. The work we do, especially in formulation development, is based on our technology. For that, you need people who master that technology down to the smallest detail."

Aantrekkelijk ecosysteem

Both agree that there is no shortage of opportunities on Campus Groningen, for young professionals and employers. Emma says, "There are plenty of opportunities for growth here, both at InnoCore and at other organizations. I'm ambitious myself, so it's very attractive that these opportunities exist here. And this is also recognized internationally, as I work within InnoCore with eight to nine nationalities."

Robert adds, "A truly good ecosystem has developed on and around the Campus, with many companies, educational institutions, and partnerships like the LIFE Cooperative. As a result, the job opportunities for life science professionals are extensive. Add to that the active campus community, job fairs, social gatherings, and the great city itself, and you have a highly attractive ecosystem. This is true for international professionals as well. And that's something to be proud of."
