“Groningen has a lot to offer” | Demcon

“My advice for students? Go to career fairs and events. Then you come into contact with super interesting companies and you discover that the Northern Netherlands has a lot to offer”. Steven Vugteveen, now Software Engineer at Demcon Industrial Systems, walked around at such a fair a few years ago and then spoke to Demcon. At Demcon he was able to develop his skills as an intern and write software for machines. And what turned out? They spoke the same language, because after graduating, Steven got the chance to work for Demcon on Campus Groningen. “I am very happy that Demcon offered me a job. I have great colleagues and the work is challenging. Thanks to the software I write machines come to life!”

Machines come to life

“I am very happy that Demcon offered me a job. I have great colleagues and the work is challenging. Simply said, unique machines are made at Demcon Industrial Systems in Groningen. “And software must be written for machines. Software for what the machines have to do, but also the software for the operating screens and panels”. Steven Vugteveen works on both back-end and front-end development. “Supercool, because thanks to the software I write, machines come to life!

Everything falls into place

In addition to making machines come to life, working at Demcon is fun and challenging. “From drinks to online coffee calls, at Demcon they are very active at a collegial level. Everything went so well during my internship that I was very happy to hear that Demcon offered me a job”.

Cycling to work

Before Steven came into contact with Demcon, he was looking for an internship in the region. “Preferably in the city of Groningen, because then I can take the bike. Fortunately, the Zernike Campus is within cycling distance of the city center. That is an important factor for me”. In addition, Demcon is also very active when it comes to contact with students. “The reason Demcon is on Campus Groningen is precisely to be close to the university and the talent of the future”. That proximity is also important for the students. “My tip for students is: Go out. Talk to people and visit an ‘open day’. Then you find out that the North has a lot to offer!”
