Groningen is the carbohydrate capital of the Netherlands. A result of the large amount of potatoes and sugar beets, and the considerable dairy livestock. It also has to do with the large industry that surrounds these resources and with the many breakthroughs by the Carbohydrate Competence Centre (CCC).
The CCC wants to generate, develop and share high-quality knowledge in the field of carbohydrates to promote innovation and contribute to a healthy and sustainable society.
Since 2008, companies and knowledge institutions within the CCC work on demand-driven research projects on carbohydrates in healthy foods and carbohydrates as a source of new materials and chemicals.
