Unique proton center Groningen opens in January

The University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) will use the first Dutch center for proton therapy in January. For some patients, where the risk of side effects is even higher, despite the modern radiation techniques with photons, the amount of radiation on healthy organs can be reduced by using protons. In collaboration with various partners, including Triade, the UMCG has realized the Protonen Therapie Centrum Groningen (PTCG). The building was completed last year, but it took a year to test the advanced equipment, such as the 220-tonne particle accelerator.
