From now on, the UMCG  can also treat patients with brain tumors with proton therapy. The Zorginstituut Nederland (ZiN) has established the national prototype therapy indication protocol for patients with brain tumors. This means that there is sufficient scientific evidence that irradiation with protons has added value compared to irradiation with photons, the irradiation technique that is currently used most in the Netherlands. Thanks to this positive recommendation from the ZiN, the UMCG can now, in addition to patients with breast cancer, head neck cancer and children, also treat patients with brain tumors through proton therapy.
