As of 1 January 2019, the UMCG (University Medical Center Groningen) will become a smoke-free environment. In May 2017 the UMCG already joined the Netherlands Smoke-free Alliance, with the resolution to become smoke-free in 2019. The Taskforce Smoke-free of the UMCG has started in 2018 to make this ambition reality in 2019. The smoke-free zone encompasses also the companies that are on the premises of the UMCG. Within the buildings, smoking has been banned for a long time.
Smoke-free
The UMCG asks all employees, patients, entrepreneurs, suppliers and visitors not to smoke anymore on the premises of the UMCG from 1 January 2019 onwards. With the help of several tools (a.o. posters and flyers) everybody is informed about the new smoke-free policy. On the current designated smoking areas posters inform people with a prior notice. At the end of the year, these designated smoking zones will be cancelled. Signs with the text 'We are smoke-free' will be put up on the UMCG premises.
