It is a painful fact: 20% of all Dutch people has chronic pain. And yet pain, and the consequences of pain, are one of the least acknowledged medical disorders nowadays. Time to change this by joining forces. The UMCG Pain Center on the Healthy Ageing Campus therefore officially opens its doors on Wednesday 16 October 2019.
Several disciplines join forces
The UMCG Pain Center is a collaboration between the Anestiology Pain Center, Pain revalidation, the Spinal Court Center and the Pelvic Pain Center. From now on, there is one central point for the right care for patients with chronic pain. "We focus mainly on the patient that has pain that can not always be diagnosed with a physical cause for the pain and who cannot get sufficient treatment at the physiotherapist nearby or at a local general hospital", says prof. dr. André Wolff, medical chief of the new UMCG Pain Center.
