In January 2024, UMCG Center for Rehabilitation in Haren will commence the construction of a new wing for the Neurorehabilitation department. The new construction aims to provide patients with significantly increased privacy compared to the current setup and will feature a restaurant where patients can receive visitors. The new wing, adjacent to the Hortus grounds, is being constructed by Construction Company Friso and is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
Tranquility
Patients recovering from brain injuries often require peace and can tolerate few stimuli. That's why the new construction will have single and double rooms, each equipped with their own toilet and shower facilities. Currently, there are mostly rooms for four to six patients. The direct connection of the new department to the garden and park around Beatrixoord will make it much easier for patients to take a stroll outdoors.
On top of the new wing, there will be a restaurant situated on the same floor, extending from the main entrance. Here, patients can receive their visitors. Meals for both patients and staff will be prepared on-site in a so-called satellite kitchen, allowing for more choices and freshly prepared meals. The restaurant will also have a rooftop terrace.
