Taste the Change: DeliYo Takes the Helm at Space Work Cafe on Campus Groningen

Tue, 2 April 2024

The Space Work Cafe in the Innovation Centre for Chemistry & Engineering at Campus Groningen has had a new operator since early March 2024: DeliYo. Now that the first and successful period is behind them, Yolanda van der Kroft, owner of DeliYo, and Edward van der Meer, director of Triade, officially signed the cooperation agreement on Tuesday, April 2nd.

Van der Meer: “We are very pleased with DeliYo as the new operator of the Space Work Cafe. It's important for the campus community that there's a buzz in this meeting place at Zernike Campus. The Space Work Cafe offers not only important lunch and meeting facilities, but with the start of this new concept, also a fresh approach and innovative ideas. I look forward to the Space Work Cafe becoming a vibrant place again, accessible to everyone and where we can meet, confer, and of course, enjoy a delicious sandwich.”

Connecting the Community

Yolanda van der Kroft, owner of DeliYo and recently at the helm of Space Work Cafe (powered by DeliYo), has already opened two successful lunch spots in Groningen, including one at the Zernike Campus in the Van DoorenVeste. In addition to managing the catering part of Space, the three meeting rooms of Space are also rented out and catering can be provided at this location and elsewhere on the campus. “We have already built up many relationships on campus, with companies but also with institutions like the Hanze. And I see that as our task here, to have short lines of communication and to connect people with each other, really contributing to the community,” says Yolanda.

New Direction

Under Yolanda van der Kroft and her partner Andries Kuipers, Space has taken a new direction. Since its start on Friday, March 1st, she has observed and listened to the wishes of tenants in the Innovation Centre, visitors, and other users of Space. This process of observation and adjustment has led to an improved experience for all involved.

Yolanda has also introduced a special discount card for tenants of the Innovation Centre: “Demcon is one of the companies already benefiting from this; their employees get their discount applied directly at checkout. Organizations interested are encouraged to contact us.”

Healthy Meals with a Wink

The opening hours of the Space Work Cafe are from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday. During these hours, visitors can get freshly prepared lunches. Yolanda: “Health and healthy ageing are important principles for us, in that regard, we really fit well on the Campus where this is also highly valued. We focus on healthy meals with a wink and room for special 'treat moments'. For example, the popular 'FryDay' on Thursday has proven to be a hit among café visitors.”

Outside these hours, visitors can find self-service products that can easily be paid for at the self-checkout. This has made the café a more flexible and accessible option for people on campus; from students, staff of educational institutions to the employees at companies.
