Second edition Campus Trail surprises participants

Fri, 7 September 2018

About 600 runners explored the buildings and terrains of Zernike Campus during the successful second Campus Trail. The runtrough passed well known, but also unfamiliar parts of the Campus, such as child daycare center KITS. It rained a little, but that didin't bother the runners: a little cooling down isn't unwelcome. "It was a great run, and surprising for the participants with the acts along the route", according to Amber van der Schaaf of Campus Groningen, co-host of the Trail.

And jump!

After a festive warming up at the start of the Campus Trail, the Willem-Alexander Sportscentrum, the participants started their run in several groups. At intervals, to make sure all runners could keep their own pace and enjoy the acts and surprises along the Trail.

Front runners

A few front runners attended to the groups. Amongst the participants were students of the ALO, Sport studies, and employees of the university, the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and employees of the companies on Campus. Furthermore, some individual runners had joined, who had read about this run in the media.

A new look on the Campus

Zernike Campus is a vast area, but often people only know their 'own part', where they work or study. This runtrough brought all runners at different corners of the whole grounds, what translated in new insights. "I did not know that there are so many companies at Zernike Campus", a student said after the run. The route through Lode Holding (also initiator of the Trail) amongst others, was a good reminder for alot of students that there is more to the Zernike Campus than the knowledge institutions: a vibrant community of companies.

Medals and a well deserved drink

After the finish the runners received a medal to commemorate their participation in the Campus Trail 2018. Many participants then took a well deserved drink at the afterparty in the recemtly opened café Wadapartja in the VanDoorenVeste.
