The University of Groningen (RUG) and the German MEYER WERFT from Papenburg have signed an agreement for sustainable cooperation. The aim of the collaboration is to strengthen the influence of both science and industry in the northern region.
The University of Groningen and the shipyard have high expectations of the partnership, from which three projects have been rolled out in the first place in the areas of IT developments, energy efficiency and sustainability. In these projects, students can engage in digitalization or conduct research into the use of certain fuels on board ships.
"The cooperation project will initially run until 2050. With that we indicate mutual trust," says RUG spokesperson Peter van Kampen, and this year about twenty students will be working on one of the three projects that are headed by professors, who are given an internship on the construction site and are involved in certain projects.
