The Campus Trail at Zernike Campus, which took place on Friday September 15, 2023, can be described as a great success, with approximately 500 participants having the opportunity to enjoy a sporty afternoon filled with adventure and exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpses of a dynamic location on Campus Groningen. "It's fantastic to be able to send out so many participants to this sporting event. The Campus is not only bustling with research, education, and innovative companies but also with events like these that spotlight and strengthen the lively community," said Mayor Koen Schuiling, who kicked off the Trail.
An extra dimension
The starting point of the approximately 4-mile Campus Trail was at the company Lode Holding, where the atmosphere was lively early in the afternoon. Lode Holding specializes in medical technology solutions that contribute to an active and happy lifestyle. During the run, participants were treated to surprises, including an interactive game at WarmteStad, a photo booth, music, and a run-through of the Science bus by Science Linx, the science center of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Groningen. These unexpected moments added an extra dimension to the Trail and brought a big smile to the participants' faces.

Well-deserved relaxation
At the end of the run, all participants received a medal as a memento and recognition of their sporting achievement. After the run, it was time for well-deserved relaxation at the Campus Café in Brasserie Zernike. Participants were treated to a delightful drink and recently launched vegetarian 'bitterballs', known as protein balls, to replenish their energy.
Record
Amber van der Schaaf, Communication and Events Manager at Campus Groningen, is proud of this successful fourth edition of the Trail: "We are thrilled that this year saw a record number of participants in the trail. The enthusiasm for this event grows year by year, and we are extremely grateful to the 23 company teams and all individual registrants who visited the Campus in a sporty way. On behalf of Campus Groningen, I thank all participants for their enthusiasm and determination, as well as all sponsors and volunteers who have made this event a great success."
