On the 14th of June 2023, the Innovation Day took place in the House of Connections. The Innovation Day was an event filled with innovative speakers, inspiring networking sessions and the celebration of a true entrepreneurial academic: Prof. Dr. Erik Frijlink received the first official RUG Impact Innovator Excellence Award from drs. Hans Biemans for the amazing work he has done on the valorization of knowledge within the University of Groningen.
Throughout his career, Prof. Dr. Frijlink has developed breakthrough technologies which are a product of fundamental science and applications, successfully balancing publications and patenting. Prof. Dr. Frijlink has come up with ‘out-of-the-box’ solutions and has proven go-to market strategies that generated revenue by saving lives.
Receiving the award on the Innovation Day is a testament to Prof. Dr. Frijlink's dedication, expertise, and ability to make a difference through knowledge transfer and innovation. This recognition not only honors his accomplishments but also serves as an inspiration for other academics and researchers to pursue impactful work and to continue to contribute value to our society.
For next year’s edition of the Innovation Day, Prof. Dr. Frijlink will help select and recognize the next true academic innovator. The Innovation Day 2024 will take place halfway through June, so mark your calendars and don’t miss out!
