‘Northern Knowledge’: that is the name of a new consortium focused on the exchange between the Groningen knowledge centre and the Northen region. The consortium is situated on the Kadijk at the Zernike Campus Groningen. This month, on the 20th of September, this unique centre – where companies and citizens appeal to the knowledgde of the Groningse companies – will open officially. Annemieke Galema, director of Nothern Knowledge: ‘’Northern Knowledge is the unique knowledge transfer office for knowledge institutions and companies in the North of the Netherlands. The main goal is to link entrepeneurship, education and industry with each other.’’
Northern Knowledge is accommodated in Start-up City at the Zernike Campus. In these buildings several knowledge institutions are situated that are focused on the valorisation of the knowledge from the academic institutions such as the University of Groningen (UG), Hanze University of Applied Sciences and UMCG. In this way the Northern region has the possibility to use the knowledge of the researchers optimally.
Nothern Knowledge will focus its activities on intensifying the contacts between knowledge institutions and companies. In this way knowledge and science, society and education meeting each other. The intention is that employees of the Nothern Knowledge not just wait for questions from the outside, but that they are constantly looking for companies and researchers to meet each other.
For organizations and companies it can be attractive to make contact with the Nothern Knowledge, because in this way they get access to the latest top-scientific knowledge. This can lead to innovations based on the latest knowledge. Eventually this can lead to new or better companies, and after that to more prosperity and well-being in the North of the Netherlands. This is the thought behind the creation of this new partnership with director Annemieke Galema.
