The Niemeyer factory is opening its doors to the neighborhood, the city, and the region for the first time on Saturday, September 21. During the Open Day, you can take a look inside and walk a route through the old tobacco factory. The site will be open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Various activities will be organized on the Niemeyer site for both young and old. Following the route through the factory, you'll witness the impressive scale and history of this place. The Open Day also marks the start of the first construction work for the redevelopment of the factory.
Inspiring Place
MWPO and Campus Groningen are working together to transform the Niemeyer factory into an inspiring place that contributes to the digital future and prosperity of Groningen. The ambition is to turn the Niemeyer factory into a hotspot with a mix of business, culture, and experience. It should be a place where people enjoy coming, where they can work, exercise, and where there is room for culture, art, events, and inspiration.
We want to preserve the unique character of the factory, but to transform the old tobacco factory into its new purpose, some construction work is necessary. This will start with the removal of certain parts. Therefore, we are participating in Bork's ‘Demolition Day’: the day of demolition. This means that demolition demonstrations will be given on the day itself. Circularity and preservation of the factory are central to this process. Curious? Welcome to the Niemeyer factory!
