Zernike Campus Groningen gets ultramodern building for hundreds of professionals
The Zernike Campus in Groningen gets a new impetus as bastion of knowledge, research and innovation. A new ultramodern for hundreds of professionals will be added.
Developer and manager Kadans Science Partner from Haaren (Noord-Brabant) builds a new sustainable commercial building with tailor-made offices, laboratories and testing facilities for innovative companies, institutions, start-ups and young companies that emerge from the University of Groningen or the Hanze University of Applied Sciences. Hundreds of people are expected to works there. The new construction will be ready in 2021.
The Groningen branch of the worldwide operating oil and gas company DNV GL is the first tenant that Kadans has signed a letter of intent with. The consultancy and certification company, which has 80 employees in Groningen, is now located at the Energieweg. According to Johan van Gerven of Kadans the real estate company has almost signed up a second large tenant, which means half of the building is rented out already.
Growing importance of Campus Groningen
Kadans chosses to invest in Groningen because of the growing importance of Campus Groningen, with Zernike Campus in the north of the city and the Healthy Ageing Campus near the UMCG as locations. With almost 200 companies and the vicinity of the UMCG, teh University of Groningen and the Hanze University of Applied Sciences it is one of the fastest growing campuses in the Netherlands. Potatoe cooperative Avebe opened an innovation center there just last year.
The building of Kadans will get more than 10.000 m2 of surface and will be called Plus Ultra. This translates as 'even further', which refers to the intent to stimulate innovations with the shared accommodation. DNV GL starts a hydrogen innovation center in the new construction.
'We want to make some waves'
Kadans Science Partner that builds the multi-tenant accommodation Plus Ultra on the Zernike Campus, wants the building to stimulate encounters, collaboration and sharing of knowledge. That is why there will, besides offices, conference rooms, laboratories and test chambers, also be an atrium as a meeting place.
"There, people can lunch, assemble and meet appointments, but is also meant for events and festivities," says Johan van Gerven of Kadans. "Not just for tenants. We want to do something for the whole campus. We want to make some waves in this building."
