Tue, 2 February 2021

DNV GL will establish a hydrogen innovation center in the new Plus Ultra on Campus Groningen, location Zernike Campus, where the Groningen branche of DNV GL will move to. DNV GL is the worlds largest energy consultant and certificate organisation. The rental agreement between DNV GL and developer Kadans Science Partners has been recently signed.

Kadans Science Partners develops on Zernike Campus “Plus Ultra Groningen”, a modern commercial building where DNV GL with her 80 energy experts, laboratories and test facilities will be one of the main occupants. Hydrogen research will have a prominent position in the new complex.

Next step

DNV GL will be one of the main renters. “After over 40 years on our current location at the Energieweg in Groningen, we were ready for a next step. The relocation to a sustainable building with ultra modern test facilities in a dynamic ans stimulating campus environment is a great leap forward to our Groningen branche and our employees. We are looking forward to being part of the lively ecosystem op the Zernike Campus”, says Johan Knijp, country manager Nederland for Oil & Gas at DNV GL.

In the new laboratories and test facilities, the transition to a sustainable energy system plays an important part. Knijp: “Many of our test and research programs focus on the use of sustainable gasses, for instance biogas and hydrogen. We work with local and international parties on the energy world of tomorrow. The Northern Netherlands has recently been appointed by Brussels as the first ‘Hydrogen Valley’ of Europe. The region has got what it takes to be a frontrunner in the energy transition. DNV GL will contribute to that with these investments. On of the innovation labs will be a hydrogen lab. Together with customers, we will develop and test new technology."

In the new building ’Plus Ultra Groningen’ there is room for several innovative knowledge companies in energy, chemistry, life sciences and big data. ‘Plus Ultra’ means 'always further', as a reference to the drive to keep on innovating and improving.

Innovative concept

Developer Kadans Science Partners realises a sustainable building that stimulates encounters, collaborations and sharing knowledge between its residents. Knijp: “The innovative concept of Plus Ultra Groningen fits DNV GL like a glove. The move to the entrepreneurial and lively Zernike Campus Groningen is a deliberate decision for DNV GL. Because of our partnership with New Energy Coalition and the collaboration with EnTranCe, the Hanze University and the University of Groningen, we are an important part of the dynamic ecosystem on the campus. We are looking forward to new encounters that the new building on Zernike Campus will bring us."
