The heat net on Zernike Campus Groningen goes live! The Van DoorenVeste (Hanze University of Applied Sciences) and the Avebe Innovation Center on Zernike Campus are first to receive heat from the heat net NoordWest (North West). On a plot of land on the Campus, the pumps and kettles of WarmteStad are running warm for the commissioning of the heat net. The switching on of the 3 kilometers long network is a big milestone for the utility company.

Temporary power plant

The heat net, filled with 500.000 liter of water, runs on a temporary power plant of WarmteStad. The plant generates power for pumps and kettles, the residual heat warms the water. Customers uses that heat to keep their own heating pipes on the right temperature. This is done with heat exchangers. In case the residual heat is warm enough on extremely cold days, two extra high efficiency boilers are stand by. A buffer tank with 100.00 liters hot water prevents the large vessels from starting up constantly.
