WarmteStad wants heat net Northwest further expanded to Paddepoel from Zernike Campus. The municipality of Groningen and the Water company of Groningen will make a decision on this proposition soon. A final decision on the new sustainable source as a replacement of geothermal energy will be taken in 2019.

Using residual heat

A new concept proposal for a new sustainable source on Zernike Campus is ready. This contains a prefered scenario with, amongst others, residual heat from data centers, that can be used as a source to feed the heat net. The net thus will be able to provide Zernike Campus, Paddepeol and Selwerd with sustainable heat. Datacenter Bytesnet, recently settled on Zernike Campus, and WarmteStad signed a contract on this. Also TCN Datahotel is in the picture for this construction with residual heat.
