On the Healthy Ageing Campus the renovated and expanded Wienbenga complex has been officially reopened yesterday by the minister of Education, Ingrid van Engelshoven. DP6 architectuurstudio, ABT and BiermanHenket have renovated the existing building, and designed a new center for the monumental school building on the courtyard, where the workshops used to be. Both renovation and expansion are built earthquake resiliant.
The monumental complex is the home of the Academy for Health studies and the Academy for Nursing of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences. The complex was built in 1922 as a school for industrial education, designed by Jan Gerko Wiebenga. It did not meet the modern standards for sustainability and climate any more in 2013. The renovated building is now completely up to date.
