There have been so many applications for the fourth 'round' of the regional investment aid Groningen (RIG) subsidy arrangement that the available budget has been overrun twice. The subsidy arrangement was opened on 7 February 2018, making a total of 15 million euros available for investments by industrial companies in the Eemsdelta and on the Zernike Campus Groningen.

Deputy Patrick Brouns: "It was already known within the province that there would be a lot of interest in the last arrangement, but the number of applications has exceeded expectations. A large number of applications fit seamlessly into the region's strategy to focus on greening the industry. "After three successful installments, the province has tightened up the regulations for the RIG 2018 to ensure that projects in the latter tranche make the greatest possible contribution to the objectives of the RIG: increasing employment, strengthening the economic structure, innovation and greening.
