Registration for Campus Trail now open
While preparations for the Groningen Half Marathon are in full swing, Campus Groningen is also contributing to an exciting and active autumn on the Zernike Campus: the Campus Trail. On Friday, September 12, 2025, the Zernike Campus will once again transform into a unique course for sport, connection, and discovery. Registration for this 6.4 km fun run is now open. Participants will run through innovative buildings and past special locations on campus, starting and finishing at the Energy Barn – a symbol of innovation and sustainability.
Amber van der Schaaf, Communications and Community Manager at Campus Groningen, is looking forward to this year’s edition:
“We’re excited to offer participants a unique experience on the Zernike Campus. On May 25, during the Groningen Half Marathon, we’ll already be welcoming many participants from Groningen and beyond, and we hope to see many of them at the start of the Campus Trail as well, for a special look inside the buildings of Zernike Campus. With the new route and the focus on energy and sustainability, it promises to be an unforgettable event.”
An energetic start at the Energy Barn
For the sixth edition of the Campus Trail, there is once again a unique start and finish location. On September 12, employees of companies on the Zernike Campus, students, city residents, and other sports enthusiasts can gather at the Energy Barn for this energetic event. The route takes participants past inspiring locations on campus where work is done daily to shape the world of tomorrow. Whether you run, walk, or pause along the way to admire the impressive buildings, innovations, and facilities, the Campus Trail offers an energetic experience full of surprises and plenty to see along the route.
“The Energy Barn is the meeting place at the Entrance testing ground, where we come together to work on solutions for the energy transition,” says Margreet van der Velde, Project Manager of the Energy Barn. “The building – constructed from straw and fully focused on sustainability – symbolizes what Entrance stands for: innovation, collaboration, and forward-thinking. With the Campus Trail, we are literally opening our doors to a wide audience and encouraging people to engage with these themes in a fun and accessible way.”
