Entrepreneur Nutte van Belzen of CC Diagnostics has won the Jonge Ondernemingsprijs 2019 (Young Entrepreneur Award). The company in medical tests can now call itself the best starting business of Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe. CC Diagnostics, that started at the Healthy Ageing Campus, developed an unique test kit for detection of early stage cervical cancer. The company has been founded by three students of the University of Groningen: Jean-Luc Kraaijenoord, Wisse Krikke and Nutte van Belzen.
Every year, young entrepreneurs from Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe battle for the coveted award. The award comes with prizes, such as an exclusive masterclass, an advice from Flinc, a membership of JNO, an advert in Noordz and of course eternal fame. Jessica Kuiken of Marketing Crew from Franeker and Frans Filius of Grutte Pier Brouwerij were the other two finalists.
Over CC Diagnostics
CC Diagnostics developed a novel methylation test kit for the epigenetic detection of early stage cervical cancer. They are going to do this by implementing a new diagnostics test based on methylated genes, making use of PCR-technology. This test will replace the current triage test, the PAP-test. The methylation test is more accurate, bringing missed cancer cases from 24% to 3%, and reducing false-positives which would save €2.9M in yearly healthcare costs in the Netherlands alone. In 2018, the young company received an investment of Carduso Capital to develop their product further.
