The start-up CarbExplore, located in Innolab Agrifood on Campus Groningen, receives a € 50.000 grant of the province of Groningen to start a platform for enzymtechnology. Enzyms are proteins that can trigger a chemical reaction in or outside a cell. The platform researches enzymes to develop healthier nutrition. By investing in new equipment and techniques, the company can work much faster. The investment is expected to generate ten jobs within three years.
Young company with more than 40 years of experience
CarbExplore is young company filled to the brim with experience. Because the technologies that CarbExplore uses, are based on more than 40 years of experience in academic research in the Microboc Fysiology research group of Prof. dr. Lubbert Dijkhuizen of the University of Groningen (UG). Lubbert Dijkhuizen founded the company as a spin-off of the UG together with Semme Moolenaar, Marcel van der Sluis and Evelien te Poele in 2017. Now CarbExplore is the leading expert on the development of carbohydrate-active engineered enzymes enabling the manufacture of functional carbohydrates for food, nutrition and nutraceutical applications. CarbExplore works with the major food industries in Europe and the US.
