Light rings lead the way on Zernike Campus
More ambiance, safety and inspiration. That is the goal of the pilot with 24 light objects in the form of light rings, that Campus Groningen has realized on Zernike Campus since the middle of January 2020. The light objects, made from old, recycled bike wheels, have been attached to the 24 trees in the central reservation of the Professor Uilkensweg, the entrance to Zernike Campus on the north side. Annet de Vree, Community Manager of Campus Groningen: "With this pilot we are not just able to experiment with ambiance and appeal. Many people and organisations on the Campus work on a circular way of dealing with energy and resources. With these light objects we hope to bring some new inspiration for sustainable project and ideas."
Circular energy
The stakeholders of the Campus work together on a lively, inspiring Campus, an enjoyable place to be, to work and to study. In this spirit the pilot has been initiated. Light artist Koos de Vries has designed and made the light objects. The rings will remain on the trees until the end of February and glow in the morning and evening, continously changing colour.
The pilot has been realised also with the support of Bedrijvenvereniging WEST (business association) and the municipality of Groningen, both stakeholders of Campus Groningen. Klaas Holtman, chairman of Bedrijvenvereniging WEST: "It is a great collaboration to make the Campus more attractive and to give it the appeal that belongs to the top of Campuses in Europe."
