Campus Groningen offers students and young professionals plenty of opportunities for a great internship or an interesting first job. This is made clear in the second edition of the 'Place to Be' campaign, which will be launched on Thursday, December 14th, during the Christmas gathering at Campus Groningen in the UMCG. While the first edition, in the spring of 2023, showcased stories of opportunities mostly centered around Zernike Campus, the campaign now highlights the possibilities on and around the Healthy Ageing Campus. And these opportunities are broader than many people might initially think. Amber van der Schaaf, Communication Manager at Campus Groningen, says, 'The life sciences and health sector in the Northern Netherlands is growing and promising. The beating heart of it is located at the Healthy Ageing Campus, where researchers, entrepreneurs, and talent are shaping the future of health. Not only in terms of primary care, but there are also many internships and jobs where you contribute to healthy aging from different disciplines. It's these stories that we aim to showcase here.'
Data, Ai and Healthcare
One of these stories involves Jasper Trooster, a Computing Science student at the University of Groningen. He started with a study assignment at the startup Neolook. This company at Campus Groningen focuses on innovative solutions in neonatal care using data and AI. During this assignment, Jasper worked on enhancing the video technology Neolook employs to optimize care for premature babies. The collaboration went so well that Neolook eventually offered him a part-time job. Sandor Schrijner, Manager of Business Development at Neolook, says, 'Our company relies on new, innovative ideas and people like Jasper, who are eager to apply their technological expertise and enthusiasm to improve care for the tiniest patients.'
This is where it happens
During the Campus Café, the Christmas Edition on Thursday, December 14th, the campaign will kick off in the presence of all stakeholders and visitors attending the annual Christmas event. Alongside the exhibition, the campaign also includes a social media campaign and a digital platform with more in-depth stories. Van der Schaaf says, 'Following the success of the first edition this spring, it was quickly evident that we wanted to continue this campaign. These stories are crucial to show all students and young professionals: for great internship opportunities and cool jobs, you don't have to go to the Randstad!'
