New on Campus Groningen: a mobile barbershop! Kapper Kribb is located at a great spot near the Foodcourt on Zernike Campus since the end of August. We spoke to Jesse Kribben, owner of the striking red barbershop.

How do you like this spot on Zernike Campus?

‘This location is perfect for my mobile barbershop! I see a lot of potential, because there is a lot of buzz here. It is a great addition to the Campus. And I enjoy being the first to be allowed to set up a barbershop here.’

How did you end up here?

‘I started here at the Foodcourt on August 30. I set up shop here after I contacted teh University of Groningen, the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and Beijk Catering, the proprietor of the Foodcourt. After consultation they all thought it was a good idea. For now  i am allowed to run my barbershop here, as long as all parties involved are happy. 

The trigger was actually the lockdown. I have studied at the Hanze University myself. After my studies I went travelling through Australia. Because of corona I returned earlier than planned. Upon my return, I converted this bus into a barbershop at my parents house in Sneek. When finished, I started this mobile barbershop in Sneek, at old age homes, at companies and in the city center. I found out, that this concept is most appealing to young people, say between 18 and 30 years old. So I started looking for a place where this target group can be found. That's how the Campus came to mind.' 

Very creative! And how did you acquire your barber skills?

‘During my studies I already started cutting the hair of my younger brothers and friends, I liked it a lot. After that, I gained experience at a barbershop in Groningen, during my studies still. After graduation, I continued working there for a while on a fulltime basis.’

When can the gents visit your shop?

‘You can get a haircut on Mondays till Thursdays between 11:00 hours and 20:00 hours. And on Fridays you can find me here between 11:00 hours and 16:00 hours.’

All that remains is the question: you focus on gents as a classical barber, what is your advice for the ladies?

‘Send your boyfriend to me, hahaha!’
