Innovation dinner encourages Agri & Food collaboration

The Agri, Food & Health Innovation Dinner took place on 13 June in the Avebe Innovation Center on the Zernike Campus. An appropriate location as the innovation center is working hard on innovations in the field of potato starch and potato protein. But also a few start-ups and scale-ups with a focus on food are located in a part of the innovation center; the Innolab Agrifood. The purpose of the innovation dinner: to bring together a substantive group with regional and national players to make new connections, so that potentially new collaborations are started in the future.

Innovative breeding ground

After successful dinners in the field of Biotechnology and Engineering, the Agri & Food theme came forward. The evening filled with short and substantive pitches by Prof. dr. Gert Jan Euverink (director of the Carbohydrate Competence Center), Dr. Marc Laus (R&D manager application development, Avebe), Prof. dr. Jon D. Laman (Professor of Immunology of Aging, UMCG), and Dr. Dmitry Bachin (EV Biotech) offered an innovative breeding ground for an inspiring evening.

National interest

Among the invited guests - a mixed group - there were 40 people from the business community and the Groningen knowledge institutions. Not only from the region, but also from far there was interest in the ecosystem on Campus Groningen. The private dinner, with an informal character, attracted big names including Friesland Campina, Koopmans, Suikerunie, Smilde Foods, Ausnutria and AgriFirm. And whether the Groningen knowledge has been received with enthusiasm? The existing connections have been strengthened and new connections have been made, we can state that. And when asked whether this should be followed up, the people present responded enthusiastically: “Certainly give a follow-up to this. I have learned so many new things and met new people. "

The innovation dinners - organized by Campus Groningen and partners - take place periodically on a theme for the benefit of joint innovation. R&D'ers from the (regional) business community come into contact with the knowledge institutions and companies on the Campus. The result; an informal and inspiring dinner where the first ideas and connections for new collaborations arise on specific themes in a small group.
