Frontrunner Richard Oude Breuil
For Richard Oude Breuil, the campus is much more than just a workplace. “This place is full of life and energy. During the day, you see students and staff; in the evening, sports enthusiasts take over. There’s always something happening, in education, business, and research.” As Asset Manager for Grounds Management at the University of Groningen, he sees how education, research, business, and sport come together. “That constant movement and diversity: it gives me energy.”
Staying active comes naturally to Richard. Running is his hobby and his way to unwind. “I’m a bit of a live wire, and running helps me clear my head.” He values the Campus Trail as a way to get people moving and to bring them together. “It’s more than a sporting event. The Trail connects people.”
That sense of connection is something he also seeks in his work. “Together with all our partners, we want to create a green, connected campus where everyone feels at home. It can feel like a marathon at times, with lots of twists and turns, but we’re making progress together. That makes me proud.”
His motto sums it up nicely: “Once you start, the finish feels closer with every step.” Not a distant goal, but a reachable finish line. “That’s what keeps me going, and what connects me to this place, every single day.”
“I’m a bit of a live wire, and running helps me clear my head.”
