The National Stargazing Days take place from March 15th to 17th, 2024. In many places in the Netherlands, you can observe the stars through a telescope. In Groningen, the Blaauw Observatory on the Zernike Campus will open its doors to interested visitors (only on Saturday March 16).
Programma
De Groninger Vereniging voor Weer- en Sterrenkunde is organizing lectures on Saturday, March 23rd, throughout the afternoon, focusing on the James Webb Telescope. The lectures will cover the discoveries made so far and the technology behind the telescope.
Jupiter is still visible in the evening sky. Additionally, Mercury becomes visible in the latter half of March. It can be seen low in the western sky shortly after sunset. Around March 24th, the planet is best observed around half-past seven in the evening. If you can't locate it, you can use an app like Stellarium to view the night sky.
Astronaut André Kuipers will be at the Stadsschouwburg on Saturday, March 9th. He will share with both young and old what it's like to live and work in weightlessness, and he'll provide insight into the exciting times ahead.
