On Thursday, February 15, 2024, NWO (Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research) is organizing a matchmaking event on-site in Utrecht for the 'One kidney for life (KIC)' call. This call aims to facilitate the development of new therapies for the prevention and treatment of kidney transplant failure.
Program
- 12:00 Registration and lunch
- 13:00 Start of the event with interactive sessions and networking opportunities
- 16:00 Conclusion of the event and commencement of informal discussions/drinks
About the call
The long-term survival of transplanted kidneys has hardly improved in the past 20 years. The Nierstichting (Kidney Foundation) and NWO aim to change this by joining forces in the new KIC partnership, focusing on interdisciplinary innovation for the prevention and treatment of kidney transplant failure.
Despite promising technological developments, approximately 40% of transplanted donor kidneys are lost due to rejection within 10 years. The 'One kidney for life' call aims to enable the development of new therapies for the prevention and treatment of kidney transplant failure. This improvement in transplant survival will enhance the life expectancy and quality of life for kidney transplant patients. Additionally, more patients in the future will have timely access to kidney transplantation, reducing waiting times.
Interdisciplinary collaboration
This interdisciplinary project focuses on research leading to biomedical breakthroughs. This complex challenge cannot be addressed solely from one scientific discipline or perspective. Transplant failure is a multidisciplinary problem requiring the involvement of organizations and companies from various sectors. Therefore, this call for proposals targets entities expecting to contribute to interdisciplinary research and innovative solutions for the prevention and treatment of kidney transplant failure. The development of the approach includes the integration of societal aspects (such as economic and ethical considerations, inclusivity, communication, behavior, and user autonomy).
Matchmaking
The goal of the matchmaking event is to connect researchers from different disciplines and professionals from public and private entities interested in kidney transplantation. The event aims to establish new connections and promote interdisciplinary collaboration to generate integrated research proposals.
Within a diverse program of interactive sessions, participants will discuss interdisciplinary collaboration and exchange their research interests. Finally, there will be opportunities to continue discussions with other interested parties, concluding with an informal gathering.
Registration
You can register for the event until Thursday, February 8, 2024. Participation is free of charge. If you would like to register for this event, please fill out the registration form available [here].
