With geothermal energy, energy can be obtained by making use of the temperature difference between the earth’s surface and heat reservoirs located deep in the earth. As one can imagine, different geographical areas are better suited for this technology than others. One of these areas is Iceland. Our expert of today is tuning in from Iceland and will elaborate on the role of geothermal in Iceland, as well as a global scale. Webinar by the New Energy Academy.

NEW ENERGY ACADEMY X ICELAND SCHOOL OF ENERGY

Program

  • Get to know the ins and outs of geothermal energy
  • Find out about examples of how we currently use this resource
  • Learn about the future outlook for this form of energy right, which is beneath our feet.

Historically, geothermal energy has been utilised predominantly for power generation, and as such it has been limited to areas near tectonic plate boundaries and other ´hot spots´ due to the need of high-temperature resources for power generation. The past decade, however, has seen a strategic shift in the positioning of geothermal energy as a steady supplier for the heating and cooling market for which lower temperature resources are needed. What will the role of geothermal energy be in the energy transition?
