Ever wondered what the Zernike Campus could look like in the future? What effect climate change can have on the future of our environment and the way we design? Then visit the architectural exposition ‘The future of Zernike!’
Climate change
During the studio ‘Climate Adaptation’ the students of the Master of Architecture investigated the impact of climate change on Groningen’s wider area and specifically on the Zernike Campus. Questions such as: what is the spatial and social impact of climate change (heat stress, increased frequency and intensity of rainfalls, sea level rise) on Zernike Campus? What are the worst-case scenarios and what does this imply for the future of educational and working places?
The students have been given the opportunity to focus on various aspects of the broad theme of climate adaptive design for Zernike Campus. They came up with proposals regarding the role that this area can play within the overall context of Groningen city, master plans for Zernike Campus addressing the challenge of becoming resilient to climate change, student housing proposals, but also with interventions in the public space of Zernike Campus.
This exposition consists of selected work with creative out-of-the-box ideas from students that raises awareness about climate change, but also inspires discussions about the design processes for the future of Zernike Campus.
