The Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health is organizing a summer school for Arts in Health from June 17th to 21st, 2024. Due to the complexity of treatments and healthcare, the work of doctors and nurses is increasingly becoming a technical process where compassion takes a back seat, rather than a process where doctors and patients collaborate to find solutions.
Who is it for?
Anyone interested in research, training, and the practice of arts in health is welcome at the summer school. For example, artists who want to learn how to use their craft to provide care; medical professionals looking to incorporate art into their practice; students with an interest in the subject; researchers exploring a new field; or educators looking to learn or teach about arts in health.
Content Summer School
People without an 'artistic flair' are also welcome at the summer school. During the mornings, you will receive lessons on the theory and broad perspectives behind arts in health to gain a clear understanding of how the field fits into healthcare, society, and science. In the afternoons, there will be workshops where you will experience arts in health in various forms, from dance to painting.
The workshops during the Arts in Health summer school are not like typical dance/writing/drawing classes. In a regular writing course, you learn to create something; it's about the product. In arts in health, it's not so much about the end result but about creating a safe environment where you can support your well-being through art-making.
