ROAM: a glimpse into innovation and connection
Showcase ROAM is a self-sufficient and circular building on the Zernike Campus in Groningen, designed and built by students. ROAM aims to stimulate and facilitate interaction between education, research, businesses, and campus visitors. ROAM offers space for exhibitions, work and meeting areas, and serves as a meeting place where inspiration is central. The building is constructed from sustainable materials from so-called donor buildings and is energy-independent. ROAM is the result of a sustainable and innovative collaboration at Campus Groningen and is one of the identified 'points of view' locations on Campus Groningen.
ROAM stands for a glimpse into the future, a place where innovation, sustainability, and collaboration come together. The pavilion acts as a window (Grunnegs: raam) to the innovations of the world of tomorrow, a place where you can wander and discover. The word "ROAM" simultaneously evokes the freedom to take a look and be inspired by groundbreaking ideas, in connection with the region.
Casting Memories
From 15 September to 17 October, Kasia Kaczmarek (alumnus Product Design, Minerva Academy) will be working as Artist in Residence at ROAM. With her project ‘Casting Memories’, she explores the relationship between material, memory and sensory experience.
“Casting Memories is an interactive ritual that uses clay, tea and shared experiences to explore how memory creates a sense of place. Structured around a three-part vessel representing the past, present and future, the ritual invites participants to engage through touch, taste and storytelling. Each step becomes a way of connecting – not through geography, but through shared experience. Like her clay forms, the ritual offers space for transformation: a moment of becoming, rooted in presence and shaped by memory."
Besides the scheduled rituals – to which participants will be invited – Kasia will also use her stay at ROAM to further develop her artistic research on ‘Casting Memories’.
