Loan bikes UMCG
The UMCG wants to encourage staff to be more physically active during working hours and limit the use of cars, and also aims to provide optimum service to its staff. To this end, six loan bicycles have been made available since May 2019 to staff free of charge.
Staff members can borrow a bike with or without panniers from the Staff Shop. This is a convenient way for those who do not cycle to work to get to the Beatrixoord location or into the city centre.
From smoking to cycling
The former smoking facility at the UMCG, at the side of the Oosterstraat has been turned into a bike shed for the new loan bicycles. Jan Bouwhuis, Director Building and Facilities of the UMCG, did the official kick-off of the project (see the episode of 'Campus Tour' of CampusTV on this, in Dutch). Many employees take public transport to their work and are often in need of a bike during the workday. Jan Bouwhuis: "To be able to travel quick is useful for employees. And it is a healthy way of moving of course."
